Photo Essay Winter 2016: Donald Trump Protests

On March 11, 2016, Donald Trump held a rally at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois. I photographed the protesters at the event, who were designated space across the street from the Pavilion. The protesters included whites, black, Hispanics, Muslims, Christians, Jews, poor, and wealthy. The crowd grew from about 100 people to thousands as the afternoon turned into evening. Around approximately 6:30pm, news channels reported that Donald Trump had cancelled the rally due to safety concerns - the amount of protesters both inside and outside of the venue was unlike anything he had ever seen before.

A Trump supporter sells paraphernalia about a block away from the UIC Pavilion.

This protester draws a comparison between Trump, the Klu Klux Klan and Hitler. The title "Mein Trumpf" mocks Hitler's book, "Mein Kampf".

A protester from Detroit performed a song that he had written about Trump, titled "Trumpman".

Chicago's police officers formed a barrier between the protesters and those waiting to enter the UIC Pavilion (not pictured).

Another protest group, led by UIC students, joins the protest group at Harrison and Racine.
